Open Government

Government is answerable to the people and should be open and accessible to the taxpayers that fund it.  Several years ago, the Argus Leader tried to find out which teachers in South Dakota have been disciplined and the details behind the disciplinary action.  They were told it would cost $4,410 to research that information.  That is simply unacceptable and we need to follow the examples of other states that make that information readily accessible.

Thomas Jefferson once stated, “The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive.” Insisting on open and transparent government is a form of resistance that is healthy and ensures government is answerable to we, the people.
