(Pierre, SD) — State Representative Taffy Howard announced on Tuesday in both Sioux Falls and Rapid City that she is running for Congress. Howard has served in the South Dakota State House since 2017, is a US Air Force veteran, a businesswoman, and a wife and mother.
“We need more of South Dakota in Washington DC,” Howard said. “I’m running to bring election integrity, to find solutions to the immigration crisis, and am fighting to fix the debt. I’m excited about the future, and what South Dakota values can do to fix DC.”
Howard supports a full audit of the 2020 General Election and voted for election integrity legislation. She co-sponsored South Dakota’s pro-gun Constitutional Carry law , supports the right to life , and is a strong proponent of lower taxes and limited government.
“I stand in firm opposition to Biden’s so-called ‘Build it Back Better’ plan primarily because of the numerous new burdens on farmers, ranchers, business owners and families,” Howard said. “The proposed $3.5 trillion in spending destroys job growth and pushes the woke agenda. We must stand up for the needs of American families and individuals, not special interests and multinational corporations.”
“We’ve met overwhelming support in every corner of South Dakota as we explored running for Congress,” said Howard. “During this ‘pre-campaign’ period, over $110,000 has already been raised into the campaign and an allied SuperPAC.
Howard is Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and is also a member of the Joint Committee on Appropriations as well as the House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. Howard received a B.S. in mathematics from SDSU, was commissioned as an Air Force officer through the AFROTC program at SDSU, and earned her jump wings at the US Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, GA. She and her husband Mark were both stationed at Ellsworth AFB and have made their home in Rapid City for 28 years.
